HEIC vs JPG

.heic .heif

HEIC

The format iPhones and iPads save photos in by default since iOS 11. It stores high-quality photos in about half the space of JPG, but many apps, websites and Windows PCs can’t open it.

.jpg .jpeg .jfif

JPG

The standard format for photos. It shrinks files by discarding detail the eye is unlikely to notice, which makes it compact but slightly lossy every time it is saved.

03FAQ

HEIC to JPG Questions

How do I convert my HEIC to JPEG?

Drop your .heic files onto the converter above, keep JPG selected as the output, and press Convert. Download each JPG or all of them as a ZIP. JPG and JPEG are the same format, so the files open anywhere a JPEG is expected. It takes a few seconds and works on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac.

Can I open HEIC files online?

Yes. Drop a .heic file onto the converter and it is opened right in your browser, with no app or plugin needed. You see a preview straight away, can compare the original and converted photo side by side, and the file is never uploaded.

Is it free to convert HEIC to JPG?

Yes, completely free. There is no sign-up, no watermark, no daily limit and no paid tier. Convert up to 50 photos per batch and start another batch as often as you like.

Can I mass change HEIC to JPG?

Yes. Select up to 50 HEIC photos at once, or drop a whole folder, and they are all converted in one go. Download the JPGs one by one or together as a single ZIP, then add the next batch.

How can I convert HEIC files to JPG on Windows 11?

Open this page in Edge or Chrome, drag your .heic photos or a whole folder onto the converter, keep JPG selected and press Convert. No extensions or software are needed. Windows 11 can only display HEIC after you install the HEIF and HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store, and many programs and websites still won’t accept HEIC, so converting to JPG is the simplest fix.

How do I change HEIC to JPG on iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, tap the converter, choose Photo Library and select your photos. They are converted to JPG on the phone itself. To make the iPhone shoot JPG from now on, go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Why are my iPhone photos HEIC?

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default because it takes about half the space of JPG. You can switch to JPG for future photos in Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Is the location data in my photos kept?

No. GPS location, camera details and other EXIF data are removed automatically, so a JPG you share doesn’t reveal where the photo was taken. The photo itself is turned upright first, so nothing appears rotated.

Are my HEIC files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly, so your HEIC files never leave your device. Nothing is stored, and the page keeps working even on a slow connection.

Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so a little detail is traded for a smaller file. At the default quality of 85 the difference is very hard to see. Move the quality slider up if you need the result to be closer to the original.

Will the JPG file be bigger or smaller?

It depends on the image. The converter shows the original and new size for every file, so you can compare before downloading.
